Metro Hotel on Pitt, a boutique 4-star hotel situated in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, has committed, for the second year, to raise funds for Legacy on Anzac Day, April 25. The hotel will open its cafe before and after the Dawn Service and offer coffee and tea at 1915 prices, just 10c a cup, and traditional homemade Anzac biscuits.
Employees of the hotel have generously volunteered their time to man the Metro Brasserie before the Dawn service commences at 4.15 am and throughout the day. The March down Bathurst Street is just a short walk from Metro Hotel on Pitt.
All money raised on the day from coffee and tea sales, as well as 50 percent of all food sales, will be donated to Legacy, a charity providing services to Australian families suffering after the injury or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their defence force service.
Legacy currently care for around 80,000 widows and 1,800 children and disabled dependents throughout Australia.
Mr Simon Wanstall, Property Manager of Metro Hotel on Pitt, said he and his staff felt privileged to be able support such a worthy organisation on thisday of remembrance of those Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli.
“In the last financial year, Metro Hotel on Pitt staff have raised over $3,000 for Legacy and volunteered over 250 hours of their time,” Mr Wanstall said. “We aim to raise over $700 in sales and donations from this event.”
Dawn Service:
The ANZAC Day dawn service at The Cenotaph in Sydney’s Martin Place begins at 4.30am. Thousands gather in the pre-dawn darkness to honour fallen soldiers.
The dawn service includes a catafalque contingent, an Ode of Remembrance, Last Post bugle call, a minute’s silence, a Reveille played on a bugle and the laying of wreaths.
