Sustainability

At Metro Hotels, our commitment to sustainability and the environment is paramount. We are dedicated to giving back to both the environment and the communities we serve. We have established ambitious objectives centred on four strategic pillars: community engagement, environmental preservation, sustainable initiatives and cultural enrichment. Through these initiatives, our aim extends beyond delivering exceptional hospitality experiences to actively fostering positive contributions to our environment and society.

Our Community

At Metro Hotels we are dedicated to creating positive impacts in people’s lives and the communities we are part of, whether it’s where we reside, operate, or visit. Our commitment is manifested through various endeavours, such as our local and domestic charity initiatives, as well as working with local community council and organisations.

Recognising diversity as a cornerstone of our business strength, Metro Hotels adheres to a thorough recruitment and selection process, complemented by our Discrimination and Harassment Policies and our Code of Business Contact & Ethics. Together, these elements create the foundation for promoting inclusivity within our organisation.

Some of our community initiatives include:

  • Hosting Australia’s Greatest Morning Tea fundraising events for Cancer Council.
  • Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a campaign donating $1 from every booking to McGrath Foundation.
  • Attending regular local council and destination event meetings to collaborate with local partners and council.
  • Sourcing of local produce for our restaurants.
  • Employing local staff as well as offering internships and working with local TAFE and University campuses.
  • Partnering with local attractions and suppliers including but not limited to – Whale Watch Western Australia, Merlin Entertainment, Europcar, Diggers Miranda RSL, Seniors Card, and more.

Our Environment

At Metro Hotels, we strive to reduce our environmental impact, assessing our business operations to enhance efficiency and focusing on improvements that can be made in each room at every hotel. This commitment applies to our daily hotel operations and also extends to our future developments when planning room refurbishments and property improvements.

Some of the current initiatives include:

  • Green Room Servicing Program – light room servicing where towel and linen replacement is minimised to reduce unnecessary laundering and waste, thereby conserving resources and reducing the carbon footprint. Guests are given the option to have their linen and towels replaced on request or after 3 days.
  • Energy saving initiatives and efficient lighting with a change to LED lighting across all our properties.
  • Water saving shower-heads.
  • Waste reduction, safe disposal of batteries and hazardous materials and recycling practices.
  • Minimising use of single use amenities and water bottles (adding water fountains to the lobby of our properties and safe to drink stickers on our taps).
  • Saving resources with a move to online guest compendiums and digital room service menus
  • Ample green spaces at our properties with outdoor access or plants

Our policies and business plans are prepared to ensure legal compliance while also encompassing environmental conservation, community engagement, staff training and corporate governance, As a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange, we maintain transparency and accountability in our sustainability efforts, setting measurable targets and regularly evaluating our progress.
