When you stay at Metro Hotel Perth, you’re perfectly positioned to experience both the well-known highlights and the lesser-known spots that locals love.
We asked Simon, Hotel Manager at Metro Hotel Perth, to share a few of his favourite places, hidden gems, and tips to help you explore South Perth like a local.
One thing I often mention to guests is the Boorloo Bridge.
It’s a pedestrian and cyclist bridge that runs for about 1 kilometre, and it’s lit with more than 17,000 LED lights. At night it’s definitely worth a look.
If your room faces the right direction, you might even be able to see it from your balcony.
Most visitors tend to go to Perth Zoo, but if you’ve got access to a car, I’d usually suggest heading out to Whiteman Park.
It’s a bit further out, but it’s a good spot to see Australian wildlife in a more open setting. It’s generally quieter as well, which makes it a nice change from the more popular attractions.
A place I recommend quite a bit is Wok & Ladle Thai Eatery.
It’s a small, family-run spot with really good food and friendly service. It’s also reasonably priced, so it’s an easy option for a casual meal.
The South Perth foreshore is always a good choice for a walk. It’s easy, scenic, and you get great views back across the city.
If you feel like going a bit further, the Bridges Walk is a good option. You can loop from South Perth, over the Narrows Bridge, along the CBD side, then back over the Boorloo Bridge.
It’s around 12 kilometres, but you can take your time with it.
If you’ve got the time and a car, I’d probably recommend going to Whiteman Park instead of Perth Zoo.
If not, Perth Zoo is still a good option and much easier to get to from the city.
There’s nothing in particular that stands out, but people do seem to really make the most of the outdoor spaces around here, especially along the foreshore.
Deceptively busy, however very well manicured.
