Located close to Chinatown, Thaitown, Paddy’s Markets and Darling Harbour, the hotel sits in a lively part of Sydney’s CBD where great food, local culture and interesting places are never far away.
We asked Zara Harun, Front Office Team Leader, to share a few of her personal recommendations and observations about life in the city.
Locals love the little laneways tucked behind the main streets. Around Angel Place and York Lane there are small cafés, wine bars and hidden spots that most visitors walk straight past.
A nearby restaurant I would highly recommend is Morrison’s Oyster Bar and Grill. It is just a short tram ride to the Bridge Street light rail stop. The service is excellent and the food is even better. You also get a gorgeous view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge just outside the window.
One walk I would recommend is heading from the hotel to the Chinese Garden of Friendship. It is only about a 10 minute walk and takes you past Paddy’s Markets and through Chinatown before arriving at the gardens.
It is a lovely place to explore, with beautiful Chinese architecture, peaceful gardens and quiet spaces to relax.
One thing I would definitely recommend is trying the local cuisine in Thaitown. The hotel is right in the heart of this vibrant dining precinct, with so many amazing eateries to choose from.
One thing I would suggest skipping is the Sydney Tower Eye. In my opinion it is a bit overpriced, and there are many other great viewpoints in Sydney that are free. Instead, I would recommend doing the walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which offers incredible views of the harbour.
One thing I noticed after working here is how much the city changes after 5 pm. During the day the atmosphere feels very corporate, but once the workday ends the whole vibe shifts.
Pubs, bars and restaurants start filling up as people unwind and enjoy the evening, and the city takes on a much more relaxed and social feel.
This location has a welcoming and vibrant personality that blends comfort with character, making people feel both energised and at ease the moment they arrive.
